hip dysplasia
Severe Hip dysplasia
Developmental dysplasia of the hip is a disease of childhood can result in a range of hip problems from dislocation of the femoral head and formation of a false acetabulum on the iliac wing (as seen on the right in this patient); to a normally located hip with an abnormally shaped acetabulum that results in early on set of secondary osteoarthritis (as seen on the left side in this patient).
Moderate dysplasia with advanced secondary arthritis
This is a less severe case of hip dysplasia showing a shallow acetabulum and a valgus femoral neck. The higher than normal contact stresses at the lateral part of the joint have resulted in osteoarthritic changes which are now advanced.
